Cooperation with the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN)
The Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN), was formed in October 2011 by 32
representatives of 13 biorepositories, biorepository networks, research organizations in nine countries in an effort to work
towards the development of a global network of biorepositories and research organizations
that are guided by shared values governing the exchange of samples, technology and information.
The DNA Bank Network is one partner of the GGBN and will bring its
experiences and knowledge to it. More information can be found at the first
GGBN newsletter. A
website will follow soon.
Cooperation with the German Barcode of Life (GBOL)
Three partners of the DNA Bank Network are working together with other German research institutes
in the newly funded GBOL project.
The goal of GBOL is to build a barcode library of German fauna and
flora. The underlying specimens and DNA samples will be well documented
and deposited in public natural history collections. The established infrastructure of GBIF and
the DNA Bank Network can help to enhance "good scientific practice" and transparency in
this major Barcoding project.

Banking DNA for Biodiversity Genomics
The main focus of the DNA Bank Network is to enhance taxonomic, systematic,
genetic, conservation and evolutionary studies by providing:
• at-cost availability of non-human DNA material,
• high quality, long-term storage of DNA material on which molecular
studies have been performed, so that results can be verified, extended,
and complemented,
• complete on-line documentation of each sample, including the provenance
of the original material, the place of voucher deposit, information
about DNA quality and extraction methodology, digital images of vouchers
and links to published molecular data if available.
